Betty Hovey has spent over 30 years in the health care field, working with small and large facilities. During her career, she has written articles and co-authored manuals/books on coding and billing, as well as held numerous coding classes, seminars, webinars, and spoken at conferences across the country on various coding and billing subjects. She also assisted in opening clinics and building new facilities. She is the senior health care consultant and owner of Compliant Health Care Solutions, a health care consulting company. They also speak at national conferences on coding, billing, and health care issues. he currently sit as a Council member on the AHIMA national Council for Excellence in Education, a Board member on Quality MD, and Board member of the Editorial Board for BC Advantage. She worked for Karen Zupko & Associates as a senior health care consultant; for AAPC as the Director of ICD-10 Education and Training; served as a member/officer of the AAPC NAB from 2004-2007 .

Cristin Cadigan is a former educator turned medical coder and biller. She holds a bachelor's degree and was a teacher for seven years across a variety of grade levels. She passed my medical billing and coding course through Penn Foster University with a 93% average across all courses. She also recently obtained my CPC-A with the American Association of Professional Coders and my Certified Billing and Coding Specialist credentials with the National Healthcareer Association. She is currently a risk adjustment coder with CSI Companies, coding for Optum. The more she learns, the more she wans to learn more about medicine and the human organism. She finds the process of abstracting to be fascinating and take great enjoyment in correctly coding a report. Cristin looks at it like a puzzle - which pieces fit together to best describe the encounter?Her skill set now extends to risk adjustment coding, HCCs, HIPAA protocols and practices, MRM software, HCC Coder, and of course the ICD-10-CM.

Melinda Manwiller, CPC, CPB
Being in a medical career started back in her childhood when she would sit with her mother and help her study for her nursing degree using flash cards. It would be something Melinda looked forward to everyday and she knew then that she wanted to follow in her footsteps, maybe not as a nurse, but definitely in the medical field. As she got older, she enjoyed listening to her stories as a surgical services nurse and eventually an ER nurse. She started out her career as a unit secretary on the surgical floor of the hospital, that is when she knew medical services was the right path for her.
Over the years she has grown and have watched the medical profession change as she learn to adjust with it. Years ago, charts were on paper and claims were printed out and mailed. Now we have imported all those paper charts into an electronic file and use clearinghouses and insurance websites to process claims and retrieve payment information. Some may have resisted this change however she thought it was exciting and could not wait to see how it would enhance my daily responsibilities.
Throughout this time billing and coding for the neurology practice she was unable to obtain my Certified Professional Coder certification, so I finally took that leap and took the certification course, studied for hours daily, practiced and learned. she proudly achieved that goal of Certified Professional Coder – magna cum laude and it is one of her most honored accomplishments.
She enjoys learning, growing, teaching, helping, and encouraging co-workers and patients alike. She looks forward to seeing what comes next.
